Charmy: A charmed life!

Charmy, the sexy glam girl of Tollywood, is returning to Kollywood with Laadam which released on Friday.

The beautiful Punjabi girl’s sunshine smile and chatter is enough to charm anyone. She has been around for the last six years, doing mainly Telugu films and has featured with all top heroes.

Two years back she reinvented herself with Anukokunda Oka Roju a powerful heroine-oriented film that worked wonders at the box office. Since then, she has been doing commercial films, playing second heroine to superstars in films like Style, Mantra, Pournami and Rakhi.

After a four year sabbatical, she wants to make a splash in Tamil films with “meaningful roles”. On the comeback trail with Laadam, the lovely lady says, “I’m doing a Tamil film after a long time. The role is tailor-made for me. I play the role of Angel, a positive and lively character who is a chatterbox. She is the central character around whom the movie revolves. The character is close to my heart.”

As far as she is concerned, she doesn’t plan things, and there was no decision not to do a Tamil film, it just happened. “I’m very happy the way my career has shaped out, it’s all God’s blessings,” says the actress.

The buzz in Tollywood is that she is open to doing glamorous roles and does not mind flaunting her body. Charmy shoots back, “Can you define the word glamour? There is a big difference between skin show and glamour. Glamour in my dictionary, is a positive word that means good looking. But, I have defined my limits for skin show. I don’t see anything wrong in being called glamorous.”

Laadam has also been dubbed in Telugu as 16 Days and almost all areas in Andhra have been sold. However, the actress is quick to point out, “What counts is my role and the impact it has on the audiences. I really love taking up challenges and doing performance-oriented roles.”

Charmy confesses that she may be the only heroine who has no Bollywood dreams. Her rivals in the industry say that she is too plump, and will not suit Bollywood audiences. Adds Charmy, “I’ve never tried for roles in Hindi films, although I did get a few offers. I’m doing well here and am not interested in Bollywood. I want to take one step at a time.”

Worth a Million Bucks!

Trisha, who’s reportedly demanded more than a crore for a Gopichand film, says she doesn’t hike or drop her price...

THE fun-loving Trisha is back from a long holiday. “I love to take long breaks and go on vacations. I usually do so twice a year,” says Trisha, who was on a trip to Australia. “My friends and I try to cover various parts of the world. We went to Australia last time and liked it so much that we decided to go there again,” she says.

She’s back to work now and has resumed shooting for the Telugu remake of Abhiyum Naanum, the Tamil version having become a big hit. And she’s excited about it. “Heroines don’t get to do such roles. I’m happy with the response I’ve received,” she says. This is Trisha’s fourth movie with Prakash Raj. “Prakash Raj and I have played various kinds of roles in other movies. This is the first time we share screen space as father and daughter. It’s totally different from what we’ve done before, something the audience would never have imagined,” says Trisha, who also comments on the young Manmohan Singh’s role, played by newbie Ganesh Venkatraman. “He’s a very dedicated newcomer who has turned out to be a good friend,” she says.

Trisha, who’s also shooting for Vishnuvardhan’s Sarvam, will be seen in Gopichand’s next untitled film as well. Apparently, she’s charging a bit more than Rs 1 crore for the movie. “I don’t hike my price and neither do I reduce it. The producer pays what I’m worth. Many people say money is first, but to me it’s secondary,” she says.

Rumour has it that Trisha’s next film will be with Dhanush. This apart, Trisha will be starring in a Tamil and Hindi film, to be directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon. “I don’t like to discuss films that are still in the pipeline. And if I were to act in Gautam’s film, it will be only in Tamil,” she confirms. Why not Bollywood? “I know it’s the biggest industry. But right now I’m content here,” she says. Although she’s open to films in all languages, Trisha denies rumours of she being part of a Sandalwood project. “I need the time for it, which I don’t have right now,” she clarifies.

Trisha is constantly making headlines, be it for professional or personal reasons, but she’s resigned herself to the situation. “Whether it’s positive or negative news, I read the paper and keep it aside. Good or bad, I’m in the limelight,” she says.

So, you were wondering where Tollywood actress Gauri Munjal disappeared? She's been shooting for a Kannada film opposite Ajay in Switzerland. And in the tremendous cold, Gauri was required to shoot in a sleeveless dress. In minus 10-degree temperature, Gauri almost froze! Tollywood audiences would recall that Gauri Munjal began her Tollywood career with a resounding hit Bunny and was immediately hailed as a promising talent. But she failed to make it big there after. Though her looks and performance got noticed, some would say she wasted the advantage by choosing wrong films, including Ramanaidu's comic-caper Sri Krishna which bombed. With no big offers coming her way, she even did an item number with comedian-turned-hero Venu Madhav in Bhookailas. After being out in the cold quite literally now, we hope she's able to warm up to some success

Sindhu's gamble

Sindhu Menon who impressed as a lover girl in Chandamama, now plays a supportive wife to Jagapathi Babu in her next film Siddham. Isn't she risking her chances?

"On the contrary, I think it's an opportunity to prove my versatility," she retorts. She marks it more as a tale of an understanding young couple. "There are enough cute scenes between us," she asserts. Given a choice, will she be a compassionate wife in real-life too? "Why not, I'll definitely support his ideals." she reasons. Nag rules out active politics...Nag Views

Nag, it seems, is finally fed up of the characteristic but clichéd running around trees with pretty young things and bashing up goons.

So, is he pushing the glass ceiling by stepping into serious cinema or is it his surgery (he confirmed that he underwent knee surgery recently) that's cramping his style?

"It was tiresome dancing with eight pretty actress," exclaims Nag, although he does confess he's impressed with co-star Mamta Mohandass. "I am her fan", he says, breaking into a mischievous smile that melts his years away.

Though Nag does not say it in so many words, it comes across that he's determined this year to chart a new course in his career. He was a bit surprised with director Sekar Kammula opting out of a film that was scheduled to start early this year. He says, "We were about to start the film in February but after he watched me in a larger-than-life role in King, he backed out and assured me, he would come back with a suitable script."

Reiterating his decision to go in for sensible roles and denying rumours about taking a break from acting, he says, "I am not taking a break since I have enough offers. It's just that I'm waiting for a good script to come my way. I am even thinking of doing a thematic film like A Wednesday and given a choice I would love to do Naseeruddin's role," he asserts.
Wondering if he, like his contemporaries in Bollywood, is into blogging as well? "I don't have the patience for blogging and chatting," says the actor, who finds it hard even to send an SMS on his mobile! Commenting on the unusual title King for a comic caper, he explains, "I too, was a bit apprehensive and was insisting on another title, but finally it was justified as the whole film revolves around that role."

Nag who has done a comedy after a long gap, says that he was surprised that filmmakers are not approaching him with comedy scripts despite him showcasing his flair for comedy in laugh-riots like Hello Brother and Manmadhudu. "I think it's due to my serious look," he smiles.
On competition brewing from stars like Mahesh and NTR he says, "They are really big stars but I have no problems as long as we play roles that suit our image and age respectively. If we intend to crisscross then it could rebound," he says with some caution, though.

Revealing his studio expansion plans which include a film academy, he says, "Filmmaking is a skilled job and the basics have to be mastered."

On news about corporate companies trying to sign him for package deals, he confirms the buzz. "A big corporate company has had discussions with me. I am ready to sign up, but only on my terms," he affirms in his inimitable style. He rules out active politics as well. "I am happy to be an actor," he signs off.

Priyamani With Nitin

by ONLINE MOVIES | 12:24 AM in | comments (0)

Hero Nitin is now struggling to score a big hit desperately. His attempts in 2008 did not yield the desired results. Nitin has now set all his hopes on his new film Drona.

Drona stars the sexy Priyamani as heroine. It is said that Priyamani has done a hot bikini scene for the film. Will Priyamani’s bikini act help Nitin score a big hit and give a boost to his career? We have to wait for some more days to know the result.

It could be one of the most interesting partnerships in Indian cinema. Actors Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal may work together very soon, it is reliably learnt from Kollywood sources. The latest buzz is that the two may work together on the remake of ‘A Wednesday’ that featured actors Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.

Kamal is said to be in the process of finalising the director for this remake that he will work on even before ‘Thalaivan Irukindran,’ which was expected to be his next project. Reports in late 2008 said Kamal had approached Mohanlal for ‘Thalaivan Irukindran.’

Once news about the remake venture came out, the industry believed that Kamal had approached actor Mammootty to play the character of the police officer played by actor Anupam Kher in the original film. Now, information on the actor approaching Mohanlal for the same role has surprised many.

Mohan Lal

Kamal will play the character that Naseeruddin Shah played.

‘A Wednesday’ is about the police commissioner of Mumbai Prakash Rathod who is going to retire the next day. Just before retirement, he recalls the most challenging case tackled by him — that of a call he gets from an anonymous person one Wednesday, who gives information on bombs planted across the city, and demanding the release of militants. The story unfolds into a beautiful narrative of a common man.

“It was Rajinikanth and Mammootty in ‘Thalapathi,’ so would it be Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal now?’ – film buffs can’t seem to wait for an official announcement.

Shyam Prasad Reddy’s latest film Arundhati which is slated for the release on 9 January is postponed to 14 January. Censor board awarded A certificate to this film. The theatrical trailer and publicity material is creating great amount of curiosity for the film. Anushka is playing the title role in this semi-period film. Koti scored music. Kodi Rama Krishna directed it.
